Today is International Asexuality Day — a day for aces all over the world to celebrate their orientations and themselves. Asexuality, or experiencing little to no sexual attraction to anyone of any gender, is a spectrum that includes many different orientations which specify experiences that are mostly asexual with an exception. Maybe you’re familiar with asexuality or are asexual yourself. Or maybe you’ve never heard of any of these words and are wondering what on earth I’m talking about. That’s okay! We’re here to learn.

Asexuality is considered to be an umbrella, and there are numerous guides and resources online that go over the spectrum of asexual microlabels in detail. Before we can get to microlabels and different ace experiences, it helps to figure out if you’re somewhere under the umbrella of asexuality. For some people, this is very easy — you read the definition, and you just know it’s talking about you. For others, it requires a lot of introspection and challenging preconceived notions we once took for granted to figure out where we belong in the queer community — ace or otherwise.

Today, I want to invite you to ask yourself some questions about sexuality and your relationship to it.
