Here’s What Ace Men and Masculine Aligned Aces Want You To Know
Old muscle cars. Dogs. Bottling up emotions, drinking a beer. Watching football on Sunday with the guys. Providing for a family. There are many things that in America are culturally associated with masculinity. Sometimes this is used as the punchline of a joke, such as when on the Red Green show each episodes ends with the man’s prayer: “I’m a man, and I can change. If I have to. I guess.”
Other times, it can be taken to extremes that cause harm to men, women, and all other genders, such as the transphobia and gendered expectations that come from conservative Republican politicians and speakers.
Sometimes it’s just silly and strange, like when the association extends to if you like drinking sugar in coffee at Starbucks.
No matter what it is, no matter the subject at hand, there are gendered expectations for that thing that likely are born of “traditional” (i.e. conservative Christian) values whether it is presented in a conservative space or not. Sexuality, the pursuit of sex, sexual pleasure, sexual acts, expressions of sexuality — these are no exception.
So, without further ado, here are some things that ace cis men, trans masculine, masculine, and nonbinary AMABs want you to know about them and their ace experiences.
Really quickly, let’s go over labels and definitions for the uninitiated.
Asexual — a spectrum of little to no sexual attraction; an umbrella term referring to multiple experiences of little to no sexual attraction, while also being a sexual orientation on its own, often abbreviated as ace or acespec; this does not reflect if the individual is favorable towards having sex
Graysexual/gray ace — under the asexual spectrum; an umbrella term, and a label on its own; experiencing rare sexual attraction, little sexual attraction, or sexual attraction levels so low they do not feel significant; this does not reflect if the individual is favorable towards having sex
Demisexual — under the asexual spectrum, a sexual orientation where someone only experiences sexual attraction after a close bond is formed, denoting conditional/rare sexual attraction; this does not reflect if the…
